Welcome to Peacock Gypsy – Victorian Lamp Shades designed and handmade by Linda Kenmore

Lamp

Offering unique antique artistic lamp shades on period bases. The lamp shades are covered with antique and vintage materials, including rich metallic laces, lamés, nets, voided velvets and embroidered and beaded fabrics. Frame trim is almost always antique or vintage metallic.

Lamp frames start with a silk underpinning that is usually dyed in a multi color fade or ombre. Final touches to decorate and embellish include various appliqués from vestment to Victorian, 1920s flowers and all period textiles ranging from the late 1800s to the 1930s era. Hand beaded fringe of glass and crystal beads trim the bottom edges. Occasionally, fringe overlaid with glass beading is used or elaborate hand-beaded tassels are added. All lamp bases are from the 1940s era or earlier. They are refurbished, refreshed and sometimes re-painted in original style and technique.  Some of the frames are custom made and designed by Linda (these will be noted in their descriptions). We use many custom frame designs which allow production of lamp shades with colorful glass jewels that let the light shine through.

Styles include (but are not limited to) Victorian, Edwardian, 1920s flapper, Eastern, Moroccan, Oriental, Gothic, Boudoir and French. Fusions of these styles are common.  Decorating possibilities are endless.  Many hours of labor go into these truly unusual and exquisite lamps.  They are “one of a kind” art pieces.  Photos do not capture the actual beauty of these lamps.  They are even more breathtaking when seen in person.

These lamps have been purchased by Hollywood celebrities and interior designers in the U.S.A. and internationally.

Linda also works with clients and designers to develop custom lamp works on a time and materials basis.  Please contact Linda for a free consultation.

Los Angeles Area residents or visitors are welcome to contact Linda to schedule a private lamp showing.
